Today, let’s keep it short and sweet. The sociopathic liar has now been contradicted by his own criminal defense lawyer – a veritable metaphor for this terminally rotten regime – so need I say more?

On Fox News Radio last Wednesday, Trump assailed a press report that he’d been rushed to the White House bunker on the night of May 29 to protect him from Lafayette Park protestors: “There was a false report. I went down during the day and I was there for a tiny little short period of time. It was much more for an inspection. They said it would be a good time to go down and take a look because maybe sometime you’re going to need it. I looked at it. There was never a problem. We never had a problem. Nobody ever came close to giving us a problem. There’s so much fake news going around, you have no idea.”

Oh really?

Here was Attorney General Bill Barr, yesterday, on Fox News: “We were reacting to three days of extremely violent demonstrations right across from the White House…Things were so bad that the Secret Service recommended that the president go down to the bunker. And so the decision was made.”

No word yet on whether Trump plans to attack Barr as “overrated” – probably because today he’s too busy on Twitter concocting new lies. His most conspicuous target – so far – is Martin Gugino, the 75-year-old peace activist (the Western New York Peace Center) who was shoved by Buffalo police, fell to the ground bleeding from an ear, and wound up in the hospital. He remains in serious but stable condition. Trump’s madcap theory: “That Buffalo protester shoved by Police could be an ANTIFA provocateur…I watched, he fell harder than was pushed…Could be a set up?”

So a 75-year-old man faked his own head trauma? Did he do it to divert attention from his role in Joe Scarborough’s murder plot?

By the way, the Senate Republicans who kept Trump in office were asked today to comment about his smearing of the senior citizen. What did they think of Trump’s tweet? Marco Rubio replied: “I didn’t see it.” John Cornyn replied: “A lot of this stuff just goes over my head.” Which is understandable, given where their heads are always lodged.

Sigh. Whenever I read a Trump tweet, I am reminded of what Mary McCarthy famously said about a fellow writer, Lillian Hellman: “Every word she writes is a lie, including and and the.”

Trump doesn’t need to be rushed to an underground bunker. He dwells in his own, 24/7.
