Assault weapons are still legal. Abortion, in many places, is now not.
The Big Lie endures, despite total exposure; it still threatens everything Madison, Franklin, Washington and Hamilton built.
Gay marriage and birth control are next up in this Supreme Court majority’s crosshairs, and the despicable Clarence Thomas is chortling with glee. (Justice Thomas, do you also want the court to overturn Loving v. Virginia? Didn’t think so.)
The newly minted platform of the Texas GOP calls for repeal of the Voting Rights Act and asserts Texans’ right to ignore any federal law they don’t like. It also reserves Texas’ “right to secede.” (On that point, go ahead, make our day.)
Therefore:
Democrats and independents, if you do not get your asses to the polls this November to vote for every non-felonious Democratic candidate on the ballot, for every office from U.S. Senate on down to dogcatcher; if you don’t also pester every single person you know to do the same; if you do not find time to do things like staff phone banks that help voters get to he polls…
If you do not do all those things, with all the energy left in your bones, then you will deserve every single horror that will then ensue under every Capitol dome and in every high court ruling for a very long time.
If you don’t do those things, even though we are the majority and we should win, the Cro-Magnons will seize back effective control of our federal and state governments.
And, then, may God have mercy on our distractible and insufficiently united souls.
